Meet Our Team
Paul was raised in the Bay Area and is a Contra Costa resident. He graduated from De La Salle High School and in 1987 graduated from University of California, Berkeley Haas School of Business with an emphasis in finance and real estate. Paul began his Real Estate career as an Acquisitions Researcher for Kaufman and Broad, a national Real Estate homebuilding company. Paul’s career continued in the real estate industry as he established himself as a self-employed Acquisitions Consultant. In 1993, Paul acquired Stephens Property Management from the founder Shirley Stephens and has built the business into one of the dominant property management companies in the East Bay. Since the inception, Stephens Property Management or SPM Properties clientele has increased over ten times.
Paul’s goal is to ensure all Property Owners increase their property’s income and efficiency by decreasing expenses and increasing revenue. In addition, Paul guides the SPM team to ensure that all our commercial and residential tenants can be proud of their living or working environment.
Paul partakes and oversees the management of all retail, office, industrial, and multi-family properties throughout San Francisco’s East Bay Area. The success of SPM is due to the committed team employed at SPM.
Paul is an active member and Board Director of the California Apartment Association. He is also a licensed broker with the California Department of Real Estate. He is bilingual in English and Spanish.
She provides administrative, secretarial and clerical support to her team members and maintains an efficient office environment. With her excellent work ethic and dedication, she has become a valuable asset to SPM Properties.
Katherine graduated in 2001 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science and an undergraduate in Master’s of Public Administration from a University in the Philippines. She landed a job in a prestigious government office in the Philippines that deals in diplomatic relations and consular service that made her pursue the career in the field of public relations and customer service.
Senior Portfolio Manager
Melissa joined the SPM team in 2004. She is an experienced Property Manager and a licensed Real Estate Agent. Melissa manages a portfolio of over 340 units that includes both Multi Family Residential properties and Commercial Real Estate, with an emphasis on Commercial Leasing. Her portfolio services East Bay properties from Freemont to Vacaville, with many locations in between.
Melissa has been a resident of the Bay Area for 18 years and is intimately familiar with the diverse cultures that make the Bay such a wonderful place to call home. Her insight allows her to develop marketing strategies that benefit owners and prospective tenants, both residential and commercial alike. She was voted Property Manager of the Year 2017-2018 by the California Apartment Association (CAA).
She has her Bachelor’s Degree from the State University of New York and has been working in property management for over 18 years.
Athena has worked at SPM in various roles for over 15 years. Athena grew up learning and understanding the property management industry and the responsibilities encompassed in managing a company. Athena understands her role as a Portfolio Manager is to protect and increase the value and integrity of the real estate she manages.
Athena takes pride with her quick turnaround time on customer inquiries. Customer service is a priority.
Athena serves as Board member for a local HOA.
Athena has a Bachelor’s of Science from the University of California, Berkeley -Interdisciplinary Studies – Nutrition and Public Health, and Certification in Holistic Nutrition from Bauman College
Sicily Calderon joined SPM Properties in 2016 with over 18 years of experience in the property management industry. Prior to joining SPM Properties, she built a family business in 2008 that is still thriving today.
With extensive experience in residential, multifamily and affordable housing, she enjoys the challenge of her diversified portfolio. Sicily continues ongoing education to stay current with real estate and rental laws, and works closely with clients to meet their goals.
Her educational background includes USAR Military Intelligence school.
Through the years, Viola has been successful in her role as a Community Manager and Portfolio Manager. Viola transitioned into a Portfolio Manager and manages residential and commercial properties. Her portfolio consists of single homes, multi-family units, offices, and retail space. Through the years, Viola has consistently strived to maximize profitability on properties she manages. She has proven successes with high tenant occupancy rates.
Viola has been the recipient of the SPM Trendsetter Award on more than one occasion. In 2019 Viola was voted Community Manager of the Year by the California Apartment Association (CAA).
Veronica joined the SPM team in 2021 with over 16 years of experience in the Property Management industry. Her love of Property Management began as a Leasing Agent and she has never looked back. Veronica finds great passion in helping people find the right place to call home and believes that every person’s home should complement their lifestyle. She recognizes that every resident is her number one priority and strives to demonstrate the highest level of integrity and commitment to her residents.
Veronica has extensive knowledge and experience in managing large multifamily communities as well as commercial properties and single family homes. She has managed properties throughout the Bay Area including Marin and Napa counties with an average annual occupancy rate of 98%.
Veronica earned an Associates of Arts degree in Liberal Studies from Laney College in Oakland and is also State of California Notary Public. When she isn’t working Veronica enjoys cooking, reading, watching movies and going on long walks with her husband and 2 kids.
Assistant Portfolio Manager
Amanda has been a valued employee of SPM Properties, Inc since 2005. Starting out as a receptionist, she came to SPM with a strong accounting background and a desire to learn about the property management industry. She promptly learned about the intricacies of the business and requested more responsibilities. Thanks to her dedication, performance, and professionalism, she has been promoted several times within SPM and is now an essential part of our Finance Team, handling all of the Accounts Payables.
Amanda is committed to making sure that the accounts payable functions run smoothly and aspires to make accurate & timely payments to all accounts. In her free time she enjoys cooking, reading and playing with her Rottweilers.
Zolzaya is a well-versed accounting professional with extensive corporate finance background, and over 9 years of experience in the field. Her technical expertise in accounting & financial management along with her exceptional work ethic, commitment to the highest quality and ethical principles have made her successful in providing various accounting services for our valued clients.
She heads our Accounting and Finance Department and manages our accounting staff. She is responsible for all accounting functions including GAAP compliance, preparation of financial statements, bank reconciliations, accounts payable/receivable functions, and month, quarter, and year end closings.
Her educational background includes post graduate training in finance and accounting at the University of California, Berkeley and Bachelor degree in Business Administration with accounting major. Zolzaya is highly proficient in Microsoft office Suites and Yardi Pro and Voyager accounting systems.
Finance Manager/Accounts Receivable for Commercial Portfolio
As part of the Finance Team, Cathy handles all incoming payments and leases for our portfolio of commercial tenants. With her extreme attention to detail and commitment to the highest standards of work, Cathy has become a valuable asset to SPM Properties.
Her educational background includes a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications from the University of Hawai’i. She holds a CA Real Estate Salesperson’s License and continues to keep up with current property management and real estate laws though the Department of Real Estate’s ongoing courses.
Dipika has many years of accounting experience. She graduated in 2019 with a dual Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Accounting, DeVry University/Keller School of Management. Dipika strives to pay keen attention to all aspects of accounting. Dipika is known to be computer savvy, and quick on her feet.
Dipika’s mom is her biggest inspiration and motivator, she has been an accountant over 35 years.
Yolonda Newton Hubbard came to SPM Properties, INC with a professional background in Real Estate and Property Management with over 10 years’ experience as a Property Accountant.
Her educational background includes a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications from Cal State University Hayward.
As part of the Finance team, Yolonda handles all functions of Accounts Payable and banking for commercial and residential properties.
Tanya Dubel joined SPM Properties in 2015 as an Accounting Assistant. She came with over 19 years of extensive experience in accounting and tax fields.
She handles several large supplier accounts including Home Depot and Lowes, internal billing for maintenance work orders and many other accounts payable responsibilities.
Tanya’s educational background includes a Bachelor’s Degree in Management and Accounting from University of Ukraine. She has been a CTEC license holder for the past seven years.
Tanya’s ability to process large volume data with exceptional accuracy and efficiency has made her an invaluable asset to our Finance Team.
Leasing Department Manager
Kathy Paul came to SPM Properties Inc. with 35 years in the property management and real estate industry. She has represented properties along the west coast but has most recently focused her attention on leasing apartments and homes in the East Bay which she finds most rewarding.
Kathy has proven to be a great asset to SPM with her dedication to finding the right fit for each candidate. She manages the Leasing Department and encourages her team to strive for excellence.
Kathy’s exceptional customer service and leasing skills enabled her to be nominated for 2007 Leasing Consultant of the Year for the Greater Excellence in Management and Maintenance Awards.
Michael Chang is a leasing consultant specialist with successful experience in customer service and management. After graduating from Chico State in spring 2021 with a B.S degree in Finance, Michael took a full-time position at Stephens Property Management where he continues to develop excellent customer service skills and as well meeting exceptional occupation levels.
Michael has a natural propensity for customer service and intuitively knows what type of property his client is looking for, even if they haven’t eloquently described it. Michael’s ability to observe what the client’s needs are and listen to their wants and needs has made him an instant success and a client favorite.
Real estate lectures at Chico State had sparked his interest in real estate. He realized that he couldn’t change the world for everyone, but the right property could change someone’s world and state of mind, which is a good start.
Besides finding the right places for his clients, Michael likes to go on long runs around Lake Merritt and spends his time at a local fitness gym to stay active. He also supports the 4x super bowl champions New England Patriots as they are going to win the Super Bowl this year.
Director of Maintenance
Michael Brown has been an integral part of the SPM maintenance crew for seventeen years and has been managing the maintenance operation for all SPM Properties for the past eleven years.
Michael possess extensive knowledge in the mechanical, technical, and quality control aspects required in providing top-notch residential and commercial property maintenance and preservation to all SPM Properties.
Michael holds numerous certifications and his various trainings have provided him with the ability to understand all aspects of plumbing, electrical systems, HVAC systems, carpentry and small/large appliance repair. His work experience through the years enables him to address maintenance issues with appropriate urgency while stressing to his staff the importance of providing quality maintenance work and repairs in timely but cost-efficient manner.
Michael has an outstanding working relationship with current SPM clients and they value his ability to provide them with insightful information and recommendations on property site inspections.
Michael has the ability to assess the physical condition of a property and provide a physical needs assessment report to SPM clients. His proactive mindset is not just appreciated not only by owners of the properties SPM manages but also the residential and commercial tenants.
